National Blood Donor Awareness Week

Blood Donor Awareness Week 2012

National Blood Donor Awareness Week - from July 28th to August 3rd – pays tribute to more than 570,000 Australians from whom 1.35 million blood donations are made each year. These donations save countless lives of those in need; from trauma victims to cancer patients.

Blood donors are true Australian heroes. Blood Donor Awareness Week is your perfect opportunity to become one.

To be eligible as a donor you need to be fit, healthy and between 16-70 years old. It is recommended you keep your fluids up to 24 hours and have a glass of water 3 hours prior to your blood donation – and also not to forget to bring your photo ID on the day.

If you’re still not convinced, then you haven’t read 4-year-old Angus Bond’s story. He owes his life to blood donors, having received 50 life-saving blood transfusions in is short life; he suffers from a rare bone marrow disease known as Diamond Blackfan Anaemia.
